OTL

Because I feel like a blog is more like a journal than any other kind of website/profile.
I'm going to try and blog more often, starting now. And by "now" I mean, in a week when it's summer. I know nobody even reads my blog, but it's rather fun, even if I'm the only one who knows about it. :)

I'll also start tagging my posts. I haven't done any of that up until now because I just felt it wasn't necessary. Now I think it'll help me organize my posts a little bit better.

Posting an old image from April because I really have nothing else at the moment. I'm so bad at faces. :C The arms are the only things I'm happy with in that picture...

It's done!

As...far as I know, anyway. |D previewpreviewpreview
I'll post the final (real) image in a few days, when I have some more art to post on dA along with it.

I'm happy with it. Feathers could've turned out more...feathery, but I got lazy.
I would add it to my portfolio, the only problem being...how am I going to print it? I only have a normal-sized printer. I guess I could ask to borrow the giant printer the school has...not sure how successful I'll be, though. D:

Note to self: lrn2anatomy.

Updaaaate

Two more weeks until summer. sdf;asjfdlaklsd;flak I'm seriously excited. And nervous at the same time. I'm going to be a senior in high school. It's a very strange feeling.

I should be able to gather my portfolio together over the course of the summer, and hopefully I'll have built on to what I've got so far. Right now I'm focusing on the flexibility of my style. I'm trying to explore new styles and media. I don't think it will be much longer until I find a good little niche for myself.
As I approach my fourth year as an artist, I feel like my entire high school life can be reflected by the art I produced.

This is the first drawing I've ever scanned, circa April 2008. Late freshman year. This is from about 7 or 8 months after I actually started drawing to get better. I have drawings of mine from as early as November of 2007, but anything earlier than that has vanished into thin air.
For only having a few months' worth of experience when this was made, I think this is pretty good. It's colored, for one. But I didn't understand the concept of "shading" at the time, I guess.
I'm tempted to post some of my art from 2007, but it's too much work right now. I may do a similar post sometime during the summer, with a full timeline of my improvement.

This I finished in December of 2008, middle of sophomore year. This was my Arina Tanemura phase. ._.; Here's the point where I started drawing more women than men, something that I still do. This is also the biggest turning point of my career as an artist. Everything from this point on went through an improvement "boom" where I started to actually get better, and I started to study a lot of other artists, etc. I think I can also blame the sudden inspiration on several major events that were happening in my life during this time. I think sophomore year is my biggest year of art I've had so far.
If you follow my art, you're probably familiar with this picture. Even though it's somewhat outdated (I drew it in late July of 2009, between sophomore and junior years), I'm still really happy with it. This was really the first drawing I actually relaxed about. I wasn't expecting much to come out of it; I thought it was just going to be a sketch. But I sat down with my iPod ("Pretty Girl" by Sugarcult was playing on repeat for the majority of the drawing) and art supplies and I just relaxed. I really haven't done that with many other "good" drawings since this one.
I actually plan on doing a remake of this drawing during the summer, just to see what's changed in my style over the course of one year. Although it may not be Anarithia as the subject of the drawing. :/

After that picture, nothing too big really came that I haven't already posted on this blog.

Now for the real reason I decided to make a new post. I have an update on the WIP I posted last time.

Remember when I said the skin was giving me hell? It still is, GRAAHH. Although I think I'm getting better at anatomy and shading/lighting. I'm very happy with the shoulder muscle, although I think I'll go back and add some more highlights to help distinguish it more from the neck. I hate male anatomy, and I really should study more of it. HE HAS BREASTS, EUGH.
This work has a bit more of a "painterly" look to it (which is what I was going for). Critique very welcome!

Here's another WIP:

I plan on coloring it. There's something very wrong with the guy's face, but I seriously cannot place it. Tips?
I've already sketched and traditionally inked this drawing, this is the scanned version, ready to be colored. I don't plan on changing any of the actual line art, unless it's a very subtle detail that can be changed very easily with no problems of noticeability. So basically I'm asking for advice on future drawings. I cannot draw men's faces, in any direction. They end up looking too feminine. Which is okay in some situations, but sometimes I want to be able to draw masculine-looking faces without them being completely distorted, thanks.

Well, it's getting late. I should probably get to bed now.

I don't know

Here, have a WIP.

how does I male anatomy.

Yeah, it's kinda depressing. I'm trying to create more serious, expressive art...and this is my start. It'll, uh...look better when it's done. Hopefully, anyway. >_>; I'm working pretty hard on it. The skin tone's giving me a little bit of hell right now.

I'm a little distracted at the moment, so I may or may not come back and edit this post.

Always

Just some stuff that I wanted to post. o3o Most of it's several months old, and you may or may not have seen it before. =/

This is a character concept for someone who ~MAY OR MAY NOT~ appear in Anarithia. I'll take down this sketch after a little while due to plot spoilers. >w> I know nobody reads it, but whatever.

Just me and Takara being gay. owo

Blogger's being retarded.

Apr 18, 2010

Well, hi.

Hnnnnnnnggggghhhhhhh

Hello. Been a while, yeah.

I need to draw more often, even if it's just a little meaningless sketch. The most drawing I've been doing as of late is just little doodles on the sides of my algebra notes.
My depression has come back...it's not horrible, but it's just enough to make me lose interest in enjoyable activities.
So yes, I'm blaming my not-drawing on my serotonin imbalance. :D

I'm kind of stuck in a rut at this point. I don't want to draw at all. It's sad. My biggest fear at this point is that I'll be stuck like this forever, and drawing will be a chore for me.

So I'm trying new things...experimenting with my style, trying new media, doing anatomy studies...anything as long as I'm drawing, really. I'm desperate at this point.

Here's a WIP that I'm working on.

It will make more sense when I start finishing it.
My digital art method is kind of strange. I start with light blue for the rough sketch, then go over it with gray on the parts that I want to keep, and finally ink over all of it in black. Then color it, etc. That's why when it's at this stage, there could be 3 different colors I'm working with at the same time OTL.

There's something about her arm that bothers me...her right one (viewer's left). I think the anatomy is okay, but the angle looks strange...I dunno, I'll figure it out. Let me know if you think you know what's wrong with it. I could use some feedback. ^^;
The away side of her face also bothers me a little bit, but I think I know how to fix it.

Ilu, Charity.♥

Some beautiful artwork Takara drew of me and her:

The story behind this is that we were talking about what age we'll be on our next birthday. I'll be 17 and she'll be 16. Both of our birthdays are within a week of each other. We just kept saying "17 what the hell" and "16 what the hell" back and forth for like 5 minutes. She explained how she could just picture us sitting on the floor shouting it back and forth. :'D I told her to draw it and she did.
ur ossim, takara. you know that rite.♥

Okay, well, I have homework that I should do. Kbye.

Pixel Art

Been a while since I've posted... ._.;

I've started doing pixel art recently. I reeaaaally like it. .3.

I may or may not start to offer free pixel icons. But if I do, it'll be after I return from my dA hiatus.
The bottom 100x100 icon (the blinking one) is my very first attempt at pixel art. No, seriously. I'm really happy with it.

I'm using a program called GraphicsGale. The website is in Japanese, so it took me a little bit to figure out how to download the free version. ._.;
But I really love this program. It's similar to Paint, except that it doesn't suck. It makes pixeling easy. :3

Okay, well, I'm wasting time. Back to doing stuff for me!~
